NATIONAL APWU SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year, our national union awards a variety of scholarships for post-high school academic, labor studies and vocational training programs to deserving children of active or deceased APWU members.  Deadline for submission of applications by high school seniors is March 15th.  Besides endowments, the scholarship fund receives one-half of one percent of the amount charged on your APWU MasterCard.  In addition, the fund recieves a percentage from each APWU MasterCard renewal.  All scholarship applicants must be the son, daughter, stepchild or legally adopted child of an active or deceased member of the APWU.  The applicant's parent must be a member in good standing for at least one year immediately preceding death.  Currently, the APWU offers three types of scholarships:

E. C. HALLBECK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The original E. C. Hallbeck Memorial Scholarships are awarded to 10 students, two in each of five geographical regions.  Winners of these academic scholarships are selected on the bases of their school records, SAT/ACT scores, total family income and personal qualifications.  Winners must attend an accredited college/community college/university full time; they will receive a scholarship of $1,000 for each of four consecutive years.

JOHN AND VELLA HILL SCHOLARSHIP
A John and Vella Hill Scholarship goes to one student who plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in the field of labor studies and/ or industrial relations.  This winner will be selected on the basis of school records, personal qualifications, leadership, SAT/ ACT scores, responses to contemporary questions and an essay on "The Union Way of Life". The emphasis on labor studies/ industrial relations honors the Hills' dedication to the union.  We designed the award this way, so that the Hills' tremendous contribution to the Hallbeck Scholarship Fund would be focused on furthering dedication to the labor movement.  Winners must attend an accredited college/ community college/ university full time; they will receive a scholarship of $1,000 for each of four consecutive years.

VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Five or more vocational scholarships will assist students pursuing a post-high school education that will prepare them for a vocation to trade.  Winners are judged on the basis of school records, personal qualifications, evidence of a commitment to an occupation, responses to contemporary questions and an essay on "The Union Way of Life".  They will receive up to $1,000 for three consecutive years or completion of the course.
