COMMON NAME(S): Black Spruce LEAF: Needles mostly ¼” to 7/16” long,
sometimes blue-green with a white powder. BARK: Dark reddish-brown, grayer with age; in
small scales FLOWER: Hairy buds. Cones only ¾” to 1 ¼”
long, somewhat gray-brown, with scale edges rather ragged. GROWTH: Height 25’ – 30’; diameter 1’ to
2’. DISTRIBUTION: from Labrador, NF and N.S. west to
Hudson Bay, and NW to the Mackenzie and Yukon Rivers, southward mostly
