COMMON NAME(S): Colorado Blue Spruce, Blue
Spruce LEAF: Stiff, sharp, needle, sparse curve,
approx. 1” long. Blue-green
and give off a pleasant odor when rubbed. BARK: gray-brown bark. CONE: 1.5 – 4” in length, with rhombic
scales with the upper edge toothed. Greenish-blue
when young, becoming bright brown when ripe. GROWTH: Can
reach height of 115’ and a trunk circumference of 8 ft. DISTRIBUTION: Found between 6000’ –
10,000’ in the Rocky Mountains and in the south-western United States. LOCATION: Chapel Valley Subdivision, Quincy, IL |
