COMMON NAME(S): Golden Rain Tree LEAF: imparipinnate, 12-14" long, composed of 7-15 ovate, acuminate, toothed leaflets, slightly loved at the edges toward the base BARK: silver-gray brown; older bark is shallowly furrowed FLOWER: fragrant yellow, grow in long showy terminal panicles that can reach 20" FRUIT: triangular vescicular capsules, brownish yellow to violet with a depressed venation at the center of each of the three heart-shaped sides; one round, black seen in each division of the capsule GROWTH: 30-50 feet tall, 15 to 20 feet wide DISTRIBUTION: Native to China, Japan, & Korea; cultivated in United States LOCATION: South Park, Quincy, IL |
