Golden Country Pizza Express is located
on Highway 24 in Camp Point Illinois at 201 East Wood Street.
The business was started in March 1987. Golden Country Pizza
was developed two years earlier in a small restaurant in Golden
Illinois called Golden Country Restaurant. After perfecting
their own pizza sauce & dough, which they make fresh daily,
they came up with the idea to take their pizza to customers
in the small towns in the area.
They purchased
a 14ft trailer, and designed the inside to make & bake pizza,
then went on the road with a truck & trailer and a mobile
phone. They took their pizza to a different small town in West
Central Illinois each night, and Camp Point was one of those
towns. Other towns were Mendon, Ursa, Liberty, Payson, Augusta,
Bowen and Plymouth. They would pull into town on the same night
each week at 4:00PM and make pizzas until 8:00 PM.
As business
grew, and after selling their restaurant in Golden in 1989,
they purchased and designed a permanent 24ft trailer to handle
the increase in business in Camp Point. The permanent trailers
was located at 307 E Wood on Highway 24. Now Pizza Express would
be open 5 nights a week in Camp Point, and the larger trailer
would serve as a commissary for the mobile trailer, which still
traveled to other towns. With two ovens and more employees,
the Pizza Express continued to grow in Camp Point. In June of
1995, a new larger mobile unit with two ovens was put into service
to handle the increase in business in all other towns. On October
1995, Golden Country Pizza Express incorporated.
A new building
was designed and built at 201 East Wood in Camp Point, to take
the place of the 24 foot trailer which the business had outgrown.
The new Golden Country Pizza Express building opened in June
1997 with four ovens to handle the growing business in Camp
Point. The new building would also store and service their larger
mobile unit from its drive-through garage area. Now Pizza
Express has 10 employees, a small eat-in dining area, a drive-up
window, and new menu items like Buffalo Wings, Dessert Pizza
and a Double Crust Chicago Style Pizza.
A franchise
unit was opened in April of 1997 based in Perry, Illinois, South
of Mt. Sterling. This unit serves the towns of Perry, Chopin,
Griggsville, Meredosia, and Barry. Golden Country Pizza Express
Mobile units now serve 10 small towns in Western Illinois.
We thank our
customers for their continued patronage, and plan to continue
to give them friendly small town service and "Pizza made
with Homemade Pride".
